i think having an online blog area for club ko members is a great idea.
i have been taking the tues and thurs 10:00am class downtown with susan. while i have been a member only for a brief time, i do like to vary the classes that i attend. i feel that i get a new workout every time.
having taken classes at both hoboken facilities, i must say that i do prefer the uptown location. this mostly due to the ability to do off-bag aerobic work like that which you effectively incorporate into your classes.
would you consider adding a tues and thurs 10:00 am class to the uptown facility? or maybe holding susan’s classes uptown as a trial?
Thank you, for your kind words Mike. I have considered the 10 am on Tuesday and Thurday. But I have not gotten a big response for it. I’m going to speak to Jill and Susan i will keep you updated. Thank you for being part of the Club-KO family.
recently i have tried using the heavier bags and feel that i am getting a better workout with them. there are 2 or 3 that are good for me at this point. others are just too hard for me. its feels like i am hitting something solid.
would you consider “softening” up additional heavy bags? can this even be done?
Yes Mike, I actually hit the harder bags with a baseball bat during some down time in the day. I can show you a couple of other bags that are broken in. Or we could “smash the bags in with a bat” class.
Thanks for the post Mike I think this is a great tool for us(The Club-KO community)
Although I mostly go to the Grand street gym I’ve gone to the uptown location too and I love the classes. They are always different and I feel like I’m always using different muscles. The only suggestion I have is the music– sometimes the music just seems to be an afterthought and it’s not very loud and just seems to be in the background. I enjoy classes so much more when the instructor (usually Gil!) makes sure the music is always changing and is nice and loud!
I agree with Erin, I attend classes at the 9th st location and the music levels sometimes are soo low it is hard to motivate…have you ever thought to use wireless microphones so that the instructor can be heard clearly throughout the class without always running to turn the radio down? I am sure it is not an expensive investment. Also it would be nice to always have some sort of music going instaed of ONLY when there is a class
Thank for your comment Erin. I will make sure the music is more of a priority and nice and loud. I will make sure Gil also knows what a great job he is doing.
Music is a touchy issue. One member’s adrenaline pumping joint is just someone else’s “damn racket”. For example, if it was up to me, we would be blasting Michael Bolton 24/7. I admit it, I’m a Michael Bolton fan! I celebrate the guy’s entire collection! For my money it doesn’t get any better than when he sings “When a Man Loves a Woman”. Thanks you for your suggestions. We value your opinion and I will raise this in the next instructors’ meeting. If your interested in loud music in the class, check out Joe’s class. And if there are any particular songs you like, please submit them and I’ll gladly add them to the mix!
I gotta agree with Erin and Onakat here. Do we need to listen to KTU constantly?? I mean this isn’t D’Jays (Although I know you wish it was). Do they stil let you into D’jays?? I heard you need sleeves now to get in there and it seems like someone has stolen all of yours.
Mike – this blog is great, I’d love to see more recipe sugestions or a forum where members could share some high protein low fat meals that will help speed up the fat loss and muscle building.
Haha Dan that’s great. I have managed not to wear sleeves since 87. I have a V.I.P (Very Important Person) pass that states that sleeves are optional. They are overrated anyway, gets in the way of good fist pumping. Thank you for the comment.
Hey Mike,
Some members and I were wondering if there were going to be any more social Club KO events in the near future? Maybe a good way to get to know more people that share a similar interest in the community.
I was told once upon a time that the Blog would have any scheduling changes or instructor changes for certain classes. I think this is a fab idea, but I have not seen any of this on the blog…yet. Is this going to be added any time soon? Thx
PS About social events, I’d be down for it, but how bout some team building scenarios, like bar trivia? I know, it’s hokey, but it could force people who don’t and normally can’t talk to each other in classes (since you know, we’re all pretty much out of breath, LOL) and force team work. Might be cool…

hey mike-
do you really do the bat thing? i think that would be a pretty good stress-relieving class for some. i would be in to it!
next time i am in, ill ask about the other broken-in bags.
thanks.

I will speak to Issaac about how we can go about setting up a forum. Thank you for the comment.

Hey Mike-How about adding a stretch class directly following one of the weekend kickboxing classes?
mike can you suggest some exercises for strengthening wrists. i have spoken to some friends who are members and this issue comes up frequently.
I am a strong believer in taping the wrist with sports tape. I can show you some weight exercise.

I think that is a great idea. Any suggestion of what we should do?

Any plans to open one a club in Manhattan? I am moving there in 2 weeks.
